OVERVIEW

Dean Grinsfelder considers himself fortunate to have achieved a high level of success working in a field for which he has great passion. After scoring hundreds of projects over the last two decades, his love of music and film continues to drive him to evolve as a composer and collaborator in the filmmaking process. Dean's award-winning work has been heard on an ever-expanding range of projects, including:

• Feature films (P.S. Your Cat Is Dead, Stonebrook, Vicious Circle, Finding Idaho)
• Television series, miniseries and MOW's (Star Trek: Enterprise, American Fighter Pilot, Dinosaur Planet, Before We Ruled the Earth, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Lingo-Game Show)
• Commercials (Ford, Mobil Oil, Office Depot, Logix and Schwartzkopf Cosmetics)

Dean's diverse client list includes studios and networks such as Disney, Discovery Channel, CBS, NBC, Fox/Marvel Films, Miramax Films, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Scott Free Productions (Tony Scott), blue-chip advertisers such as Ford, Mobil Oil, Office Depot and Schwartzkopf Cosmetics, and film and television projects featuring talent such as Toby McGuire, Reese Witherspoon, Johnny Depp, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Steve Guttenberg, Seth Green, Kathleen Turner and Mark Hamill.

Dean's work has earned him accolades and recognition in a number of venues. He received a 2004 Emmy award for his music and sound editing work on "Dinosaur Planet" (a miniseries for Discovery Channel), and a 2003 Emmy nomination for his work on "Before We Ruled the Earth" (a Discovery Channel TV movie). Dean's score for the 1999 Logix Communications TV commercial (with/Leonard Nimoy) won the national "Telly" award, a "Mobius" award and numerous local market advertising awards. He has also received various awards for his work on Disney's "Image Quotes" campaign and SAS's "Harvest" commercials. In addition, many of the independent films he has scored have won awards and received critical praise at film festivals around the country.

Dean is experienced in virtually every aspect of the music production process. Through his production company, Highland Music Productions, Dean provides a full range of audio-related services, including:

Dean's love for the art of filmmaking and his acute sense of story serves as his creative drive as a composer. One of his past collaborators, Byron Thompson (director of the feature film "Stonebrook") comments: "Dean simply gets it. He knows what the music is supposed to do, and he knows how to do it. He writes wonderful melodies, yet keeps the music subtle."

BACKGROUND

Born April 11, 1960, Dean is a native of the town of Ross in Marin County, California. He began playing the piano at the age of five and went on to earn a B.A. in Music Composition from UC Berkeley. After performing as a professional keyboardist and composer/arranger in numerous bands around the country, he completed coursework in the Film Scoring program at UCLA Extension and was selected to participate in the highly acclaimed ASCAP/Fred Karlin Film Scoring Workshop in 1996.

Dean has a unique business orientation toward the music and entertainment industries, having earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from UCLA and subsequently achieving the position of Vice President of Real Estate Finance for the Wall Street firms of Salomon Brothers and CS First Boston. He has organized and moderated seminars on business and technical subjects for fellow composers at UCLA and for the Society of Composers and Lyricists.

Dean is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the Society of Composers & Lyricists, and the American Society of Music Arrangers & Composers (ASMAC). He is an avid tennis player (USTA level 5.0), trail runner and outdoors enthusiast. Dean resides with his family in Pacific Palisades, California.
